Focus of the event:
The ‘forever chemicals’ PFAS, present a global pollution problem. These chemicals barely break down in the environment and are found in the most pristine places on Earth, from the Tibetan plateau to the deep seabed.
But they are also in the UK: having been found in our rivers and seas, wildlife, supermarket food, drinking water, and in people’s blood. A number of worrying health impacts are associated with exposure to PFAS, including certain cancers, reduced fertility, and disruption to the immune system.
This panel will explore the inextricable link between our health and the health of our environment, and how we can tackle this mounting ‘forever’ pollution crisis.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Roz Savage MP, environmental advocate and member of the Environmental Audit Committee onto our panel. Also on the panel will be Sarah Moore, Partner at law firm Leigh Day, who will discuss their work investigating PFAS pollution on behalf of impacted individuals and communities in England, and CHEM Trust’s PFAS expert, Dr Shubhi Sharma.
