CHEM Trust joins up with environmental NGOs to promote Environmenstrual Week, 19th – 25th October

22 Oct 2020

This week is Environmenstrual Week – a week of action hosted by Wen – where many NGOs are highlighting the environmental impact of disposable menstrual products, and are working together to promote safe, toxic-free, and plastic-free period products that are accessible to all.

Menstrual products, such as tampons and pads, may contain harmful chemicals. The use of these chemicals in menstrual products is particularly concerning as the products are used for a long time, and in a sensitive area of the body. Brands don’t currently have to list all of the chemicals that are included in menstrual products.

Disposable pads and tampons, may contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates, bisphenols and pesticides. Last year, an investigation by a French consumer association found hazardous chemicals in tampons and sanitary pads.
